Saint Paul is Minnesota’s capital city. While it isn’t the largest city in the state, it inherited several “big city issues” due to its proximity within the Twin Cities metropolitan area, which has a population of about 3 million. Shari Moore has been with the City of Saint Paul for over 30 years, working her way up to the city clerk role in 2006. Shari is a former board member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) and is a current member of the IIMC Foundation board. Like much of the world, Shari and her colleagues in city hall have been working remotely since March of 2020. In this clerk spotlight, Shari talked through how the City of Saint Paul transitioned to remote work using technological solutions like Microsoft Teams, Granicus govMeetings, and govDelivery. Shari also discussed the rationale behind the city council’s decision to close live public testimonies for many of their online agenda items and how public comments have been facilitated over the last year. Lastly, Shari explained how Saint Paul discovered Granicus and how our civic engagement platform has helped to empower the city to continue to be an agile and transparent government, even during a pandemic.
