Today, the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) was presented the GovDelivery Outreach and Impact “Collaborator” award recognizing excellence in digital communications for the Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP). PSP provides truck and bus companies with secure, instant access to commercial drivers’ safety history records. Drivers can also use PSP to access their own records at any time. Since the program’s inception in 2010, FMCSA has partnered with NIC Technologies to manage all aspects of PSP service delivery, including communications, outreach, website development, and customer support.
“The PSP communication and outreach teams do an excellent job providing news and information about the PSP program to the industry,” said Elizabeth Pemmerl, NIC Technologies’ General Manager. “We are pleased to have the program recognized with this special award.”
The PSP team generates email campaigns, provides free webinars, offers ‘WhosOn’ online chat assistance for PSP users, and collaborates frequently with other organizations to increase awareness of the PSP program. As a result, program enrollment has increased 1,800 percent since it launched in 2010. In less than five years, the program has grown to over 40,000 unique users.
According to a study released by FMCSA in 2013, PSP has positively impacted the safety of America’s roadways. The study shows that carriers using PSP have, on average, decreased crash rates by 8 percent, and driver out-of-service (OOS) rates by 17 percent. It is estimated that in the 12 months studied, 863 crashes and over 3,500 driver OOS incidents were prevented by the carrier group that used PSP.
